BENJAMIN CONE III & WORSHIP
Minister Benjamin Cone, III followed the Lord's admonition and after much prayer and supplication, "WORSHIP" was formed.
WORSHIP is an aggregation of dynamic, saved, striving-to-be-more-like-Christ, men and women who heard the call. Founded in March of 1997 in the living room of Cone's Jackson, Mississippi home, the choir centered its musical attention on an a cappella style since the group had no musicians. While standing around an old Wurlitzer piano, WORSHIP took shape by developing melodies as Cone pecked out the notes.
Today, the 30-member choir, based in Jackson, Mississippi, tours anywhere its mission calls. WORSHIP's focus is traditional gospel, but the group is capable of singing all genres of gospel music, from spirituals to contemporary works arranged by Cone. Cone has been influenced by his father, the Rev. Benjamin Cone, Jr., a celebrated MALACO Records, spoken-word gospel recording artist. He also attributes much of his musical knowledge to gospel greats, such as: Professor D.R. Curry, Jr., the late O'landa Draper, Professor Jerry Smith, Professor Craig A. Hayes, the late Franklin D. Williams and Professor Larry Robinson.
Minister Benjamin Cone, III and WORSHIP have been blessed to be the special guest of both anniversary celebrations of Malcolm J. Williams and the Voices of Great Faith (Chicago, IL) Professor Craig A. Hayes and the United Voices (Trenton, NJ). WORSHIP was also blessed to be the featured choir, accompanying MALACO Recording artists Bryan Wilson and Lillian Lilly on their second musical recording.
WORSHIP has collaborated with the late Rev. James Moore on his last recording, Live in Detroit-Family and Friends ("He Will Provide") and Evangelist Dorothy Norwood's Ole Rickety Bridge ("It's Your Time"). They also were featured as the backup choir for the long awaited Messengers Project, "Special Delivery" recorded live at Jubilee Jam ‘99. Since then, they have recorded with MALACO's gospel diva, Caroline Traylor. They were also featured with Donald Malloy at both the GMWA's Excellence Award's and BET's Internationally syndicated, "The Bobby Jones Gospel Show." On July 30, 2000, Worship was honored at the 32nd Annual, Bell South Mobility's Mississippi Gospel Music Awards as the "Local Choir of the Year."
WORSHIP- is the newly signed gospel artist to the Jackson based Malaco/Muscle Shoals Sound Gospel. With their debut project entitled, "When Praise Meets Worship' scheduled to be released in July '09. This project will feature the likes of the legendary Melvin Williams, the Princess of Praise & Worship Maurette Brown Clark and label mate extrodinaire Carolyn Traylor.
WORSHIP under the capable leadership of Music Minister Cone, definitely keeps you on your feet with its powerful choral dynamics. They are sure to set you in an atmosphere of total WORSHIP.
WORSHIP'S mission is reflected in the words of Christ. The sweet voice of the Lord uttered a profound message to one of His servants, saying: "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt harken diligently unto the voice of the Lord, my God, to observe and to do all His commandments, which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on High above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt harken unto the voice of the Lord thy God."
