Anointed and destined for ministry before the foundations of the world, Benita Washington is a psalmist for such a time as this. As He did the prophet Jeremiah, God called Benita into public ministry as a child. At the tender age of seven, Benita was both leading and directing the youth and adult choirs at Chapel No. 7 in Fort Dix, New Jersey. She also ministered at many local churches across the north and southeast, using her gift to encourage, uplifts, and promote social awareness.
Many have recognized the anointing of God on her life and have been touched by God’s precious Holy Spirit through her singing. Her powerful voice evokes the presence of God and creates an atmosphere of worship, healing and deliverance, allowing the Spirit of God to move freely among His people.
In 2003, Washington won the inaugural Gospel Dream talent search competition, a reality show in which about 500 singers participated. The show later aired on the cable station Black Entertainment Television. The win garnered her a recording contract with Full Gospel Entertainment. In 2004, Washington released "Hold On," which hit multiple slots on the Billboard charts in its first week including six on Top Gospel Albums. Hold On would go on to chart again several different times over the next year and the lead single "Thank You" reached number three on the gospel radio charts and remained there three consecutive weeks. In 2005, Hold On garnered a Soul Train Lady of Soul nomination for Best Gospel Album alongside industry greats Dorothy Norwood, LaShun Pace, and Kierra "KiKi" Sheard.
Benita spent most of 2005 recording, touring, and ministering at many different venues. God is steadily opening doors for her that no man can shut! Benita’s most recent collaboration with her husband, Delvin, was the birth of their daughter in November 2005. Preparing for the birth of their first child has truly been an awe- inspiring event for Benita and her husband and has shown them first hand the creative power of God Almighty. By September 2006, her contract with Full Gospel Entertainment was up and she and her husband, Delvin, started their own record label, Reddapple Seed Entertainment.
With the New Year on the horizon, Benita worked toward the highly anticipated release of her sophomore album Renaissance. Recorded September 29, 2006 Live in Nashville, TN, Renaissance is already being hailed as Benita's best work to date. "I am looking forward to sharing with the world the greater level of anointing God has placed on my life since the release of my first album. He has shown Himself mighty and strong in my life and I want the world to know!" Looking forward to the plan of God in her life, Benita looks to the future with a calm assurance that God will do just what He said!
