SHAMOND SCALES
Make no mistake. Acclaimed contemporary gospel singer/songwriter Shamond Scales is poised and ready to become the next "now generation" artist of our time. Born in 1989 in Clarksville, TN, Shamond grew up in a musical family and home where classic gospel music was always on the turntable. "My favorite album of all time is Keith Pringle "Perfect Peace", says Shamond. "Thomas Whitfield had a tremendous influence on my life. Pastor Walter Hawkins, man, I can't tell you how many times we listened to Love Alive I. I love the Winans and of course all of the artists that came later, like Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell and Tye Tribett. The older recordings are still special to me. Even though they were made years ago, the creativity and anointing is still there. It's music that stands the test of time. That's what I pray my music does." Growing up and active in church under the tutelage of his aunt Sharroniese Horton, a successful gospel artist and classical trained pianist, Shamond was able to develop his musical prowess, learning to play both keyboards and drums. Sensing that he had a call on his life to preach, Shamond became a licensed minister in 2001, and currently serves on the ministerial staff as Praise Leader at his home church, Christ the Healer Church. Shamond had developed his own style quite impressively by the time he met Bishop Larry Trotter of Utopia Music Group. "I heard this young man singing at the Full Gospel Baptist Convention and I was completely blown away," says Bishop Trotter. Not only could he sing, he was full of the Word and able to articulate it in a way that was beyond his years. I knew right then we had to sign this wonderful ministry gift and expose him to the world."
Shamond officially leaps into the gospel music arena with his debut project "Just Another Day" (In stores September 25, 2007) distributed by Taseis on the Utopia Music Group label. Drawing from a musical canvas of classic gospel music influences, Shamond showcases undeniable talent as a vocalist and obvious skill as both singer and songwriter. With each track Shamond dips his listeners into a pool reminiscent of authentic "old skool" traditional and contemporary gospel, adding his own unique flavoring. The project is filled to the brim and bursting at the seams with musical flavoring that runs the gospel gamut contemporary, urban, traditional and even some good old quartet for good measure |
