With Witness's line-up of Lisa, Leah and pioneering member Lou Ann Stewart, the group continues to hone and perfect a sound as unique in contemporary music as it has ever been in its 18-year history. Under the sure hand of Lisa's husband-producer and songwriter-extraordinaire, Michael Brooks, with assistance from Lisa's brother, Charles "Ollie" Harris, and the Brooks' son, Justin-both quiet elegance and joyful abandon meet in a gospel/urban/r&b/pop amalgam this is nothing short of thrilling to hear.
With an ear on the streets, and eyes on the Lord, Witness delivers a message of relevance and urgency in the musical vernacular of the modern-day masses. And Speak to the Generations is a back-to-back, full-tilt journey into that rare, anointed place where entertainment, inspiration and worship meet in perfect harmony. On an album filled with hits-in-the-making, it's hard to pick any one track over another. The first single from the CD is Touch Your Promise, which will also be seen as well as heard, the video was shot at Jubilee Christian Church International in Boston in a special performance this spring.
The natural intersection of Gospel and contemporary R&B has given Witness a sound that's been singular and unique since its inception. Yet the women of Witness see themselves and what they do with humility and the hearts of true servants.
"Witness has accomplished a lot in the last 18 years," says Lisa, "but we never want to get to a place where we become complacent. Whatever we achieve for the Lord, there's always another level to go to. We take our music very seriously and professionally, but it's more than concerts and albums. It's renewing of the spirit, and revival. At the end of the day, we don't want to just be known for our singing. We hope and pray we can say we are four women who are used by God, for His purposes."
